Physics For Girls

Years 10 & 11

Small group lessons – £100 per calendar month

Physics For Girls encourages girls to embrace physics and unlock their full potential. Studying physics empowers girls with knowledge, skills, and opportunities that are crucial for personal and professional growth. It paves the way for a brighter future.

Research shows that whilst boys perform better in mixed classes girls’ academic performance is higher when taught in single-sex classes, especially for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) subjects. It has been suggested that this may be due to an increase in academic self-concept which is considered crucial for academic success. It is with this in mind that Physics For Girls has been developed.

The small group classes, designed specifically for girls, create a supportive and encouraging learning environment with more opportunities to ask questions, engage in discussions, and tackle challenging problems. Your daughter will receive instructional videos, online assignments, and a live, weekly class. The classes are run by a female Physics specialist keen to help young ladies master physics and pursue careers in STEM.

Women are underrepresented in many STEM fields. By studying physics, girls can contribute to closing the gender gap, bringing diverse perspectives and innovative solutions to scientific challenges. By pursuing physics, girls become role models for future generations. They can inspire and mentor younger girls to follow in their footsteps, creating a ripple effect that encourages more women to enter STEM fields.

Physics For Girls lessons are booked for a year at a time and billed monthly, at £100 per month.

All students will need access to a printer and graph paper. You can purchase a pad of graph paper here or loose sheets here

It is strongly recommended that students use a graphic tablet during lessons. This will enable them to write on screen more easily, set out formulae correctly and practise setting out calculations clearly. Prices range from £25 for small tablets, although I recommend choosing a graphic tablet with the largest working area you can afford. The Wacom One is highly recommended; I personally use the XP-Pen Deco

During our lessons, we will look at a variety of topics with instructional videos, online assignments and past exam questions, in small group classes led by a qualified science teacher. Students will need to have completed the required modules at least 24 hours before each class. The lessons will cover topics and practicals from AQA, OCR, and Edexcel exam boards.
